In spring of 2019 our lives changed forever when Mab’s father Jack passed away. He was my best friend, her guiding light, and a nucleus in our lives. Overnight we moved from the city to the forest and suddenly found ourselves full-time guardians to a grieving seven-year-old. To ease our pain we turned to art. With the help of a few friends we used the flowers from Jacks funeral and created two photographs titled “Anguish” & “Sorrow”. These photographs served as tribute and symbols of our loss and grief, they were also the catalyst to our new found collaborations. It was the first time we had stepped outside of simply creating project-based work together and made art. It was healing.
In the following years we continued to created together as a way to process our new world and lives, eventually amassing a small body of work. This new series “The Changeling” is our newest series of work inspired by a fairy tale Mab began writing in late 2024. These images aren’t meant to mirror the story, but are more about the mood and lonely nature of the characters trapped in worlds where they don’t belong, longing for homes they have never seen.
